Larry Zingale - Miniature Berkshire Landscapes October 11 - November 9, 2008
Salisbury, CT—The John Spencer Gallery of American Art is featuring an exhibition of miniature landscapes of the Berkshires by renowned self-taught artist Larry Zingale. The show will include both works on paper and canvas, none larger than 6x8 inches. Zingale has lived in the Berkshires the past seven years. The paintings capture the lyrical beauty evident in this corner of New England. Zingale’s paintings have always incorporated a finely tuned sense of color. The Berkshire landscapes continue this tradition, and, in fact, have become even bolder and more poetic.
Zingale has had six one-man shows in New York, including exhibitions at the Fabian, America Hurrah, Jay Johnson and Frank Miele art galleries. Paintings by Zingale are in many private collections and museums, including the Museum of International Folk Art, Sante Fe, The Nelson Rockefeller collection, the Fenimore House Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., and the collections of Joan Baez, Paul Simon, Peggy Noonan and Joel and Kate Kopp. He has exhibited at the Museum of American Folk Art in New York, The Nassau County Museum of Fine Art, The Wilson Art Center in Rochester, N.Y., The Silvermine Guild and the Stamford Museum in Connecticut. His work has appeared in various books and magazine articles, including New York Magazine and Architectural Digest. Zingale has been recognized as “one of the outstanding self-taught artists of the twentieth century” in American Folk Art in the Twentieth Century (Rizzoli, New York, and is listed Who’s Who in American Art.
Artist’s reception Saturday, October 11, 5-7pm. The exhibition will continue through Sunday, November 9th.
John Spencer American Art and Antiques features quality 19th and 20th century American paintings and a select collection of contemporary art. The gallery has been located in Salisbury since 1999.
