Charles Stepule
A painter especially noted for harbor scenes of Gloucester and Rockport, Massachusetts, Charles Stepule was a long-time resident of Hartford, Connecticut. He was born in Wallingford, Connecticut in 1911 to Charles and Mary Yokim Stepule. He studied at the Connecticut League of Art Students, the New York Art Students League and in various studios in England, France, Spain and Italy.
During World War II, he served in the Army. Living primarily in Hartford, he taught at the East Hartford Art League, but he also spent much time at Rockport, where in 1958, he established the first art gallery, the Charles T. Stepule Gallery, on Bearskin Neck.
Charles Stepule died November 3, 2006 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
