William Knox (1880 - 1945)
Biography
Knox was born in Handsworth, near Birmingham, England. As a boy he painted both seascapes and landscapes. He moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, and spent much of his time by the sea sketching and painting ships with great technical detail. The late John Gibbon of Birmingham, president of the Royal Society of Artists, recognized Knox’s talent and persuaded him to take up painting professionally Knox became known as one the foremost marine and ship artists of the twentieth century and he is represented in many public and private collections.
